All practice questions on this website have been updated to reflect the new format entrance test, which I sat in 2025.

FAQs Australia Federal Police (AFP) Entrance Test
What does the AFP entrance test involve?
The AFP entrance test is run by SHL and is made up of three sections. They include abstract (also known as inductive), verbal (deductive) and numerical. There is also a standard personality test included.
How many questions are in the test?
The entrance test is quite short compared to other aptitude tests. There are 15 questions for the abstract (inductive) section, 12 questions for the verbal (deductive) section and 11 questions for the numerical section.
How long do we get for each section?
You will have 18 minutes for both the abstract (inductive) and verbal (deductive) sections. You will have 10 minutes for the numerical section.
How hard is the entrance test?
This is a more difficult question to answer as everyone is coming to the test from a different place, has different strengths and weaknesses and deals with time pressure differently.
The test questions are all simple logic based, which is good news for people who struggle with the standard verbal reasoning questions where it tests your word knowledge. This will also help anyone struggling to remember different rules and formulas for the numerical section as the questions will only test basic numerical skills.
However, the types of questions in the AFP entrance test are very different to the other professionals service tests I’ve taken (and I’ve sat about 12 by now). So having an understanding of the types of questions / formats of the questions asked beforehand will be beneficial to all candidates.
Can I use a calculator
Yes you can for the numerical section. The other sections don’t require it.
Can I use pen and paper?
Yes and I highly recommend you do for all sections.

Why I Created AFP Practice Exams

My name is Luke and I built this website to help recruits like yourself who are on the path to joining the AFP.
How? By Offering you extra practice material specific to the AFP Aptitude Test at an affordable price.
By offering extra practice exams, it gives you the opportunity to build upon your strengths, work on and improve any weaknesses you may have and finally, to take the entrance test with more confidence.
How did I get the idea to create this website?
I originally applied into the Victoria Police and later withdrew my application. However, after sitting their aptitude test, I realised there was an opportunity to help other candidates who were in a similar situation to me when I prepared for the test; they wanted extra practice with similar questions to the official aptitude test.
In Feb 2024, I sat and passed the AFP Entrance Exam (results to the left) and the all practice questions found on this website are based on the actual entrance test.
Since then, I created a series of practice exams (all questions created by myself) for the following organisations: Victoria Police, QLD Police, WA Police, VIC Firefighters, NSW Firefighters and QLD Firefighters, NZ Police, NZ Fire Fighters, and the NZ Defence Force., helping thousands of recruits like yourself pass their entrance test.
Over that time, I’ve received some great feedback such as from Jacob:
“I want to give a huge thanks for making some affordable practice materials for the entrance exam, it was really helpful leading up to my exam (which I did really well in). Your exams really created a great practicing environment, I believe set me up for success. So, thank you!”
I find helping others to be rewarding & I’ve proven to be quite successful at creating quality aptitude tests. I’m proud of the work I create and am happy to help you out if you’re stuck on a question or wanting advice to prepare for the test. Drop me a line below.
All the best,
Luke
